The Rubicon Models M4A4 Sherman / Firefly VC kit offers modelers the opportunity to build either the M4A4 Sherman (Sherman V) or the Firefly VC variant, a renowned tank destroyer equipped with the powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun.

Historical Background
The M4A4 Sherman, known as the Sherman V in British nomenclature, featured a welded hull and was powered by the Chrysler A57 multibank motor, which combined five car engines into one crankcase. While the US Army primarily used it for training, the British found it reliable and widely deployed it, particularly in lend-lease agreements. Despite not receiving the improved large hatch hull or the T23 turret with the 76mm M1 gun, it served with numerous nations including Britain, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and others.

The Firefly VC variant was based on the M4A4 chassis and mounted the 3-inch (76.2mm) 17-pounder gun. Initially developed as an interim solution, it became crucial during the Normandy campaign, capable of penetrating the thick armor of German Panther and Tiger tanks. Its distinctive longer barrel made it a prime target for German forces, leading to attempts to disguise its appearance as a standard Sherman with a 75mm gun.
