British BSA M20 Motorcycle & Police Set 35316 1/35
The Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA), renowned for its legacy in firearms manufacturing, earned global recognition as the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer during World War II. In 1939, BSA adapted their M20 commercial motorcycle for military use, equipping it with a Lucas light and other essential modifications to meet wartime demands.
Powered by a robust 12hp single-cylinder 500cc side-valve engine, the M20 was celebrated for its superb reliability and ease of maintenance. Throughout its production, the motorcycle underwent various improvements, including the addition of an air filter fitted onto the fuel tank in late-war models. This dedication to continuous enhancement ensured the M20 remained a trusted vehicle on the battlefield.
During the war, over 126,000 units of the M20 were produced, with the majority deployed by the British Army. These motorcycles served valiantly on every front, undertaking a variety of duties such as liaison missions and supply convoy escorts. The versatility of the M20 also saw it utilized by the RAF and the British Navy, further cementing its role in the Allied war effort.
Even after the war, the BSA M20 continued to prove its worth, serving throughout the 1950s and even into the late 1960s. This enduring legacy highlights the M20's exceptional design and reliability, making it a pivotal part of military history.
The BSA M20: a motorcycle that not only supported the war effort with unmatched dependability but also left an indelible mark on the post-war era. Honour it with this model kit from Tamiya today.
