How to use eye-catching fluorescent pigments
Here are some general steps to help you apply them effectively:
- Clean the Surface: Ensure the miniature is clean and free of debris or oils by gently washing it with soap and water, then allowing it to dry completely.
- Prime the Surface: Apply a primer to help the paint adhere. For vibrant colours, use a white or light-coloured primer.
- Base Paint the Model: Paint the model with basic colours first. Fluorescent pigments will enhance and add amazing effects to these base colours.
- Apply Fluorescent Pigments: These pigments can be applied directly in their powder form or mixed with a medium like Master Medium or Pigment Fixer. Since they lack inherent fixation properties, mixing them with a medium can help ensure they adhere properly. Multiple layers may be necessary to achieve the desired brightness.
- Seal the Pigments: Once the paint has dried, seal it with a Pigment Fixer, acrylic thinner, clear varnish, or another sealer to protect it from chipping or fading. This can be done with a paintbrush or a spray-on product.
- Store the Miniature: Store the miniature in a dry, cool location to prevent dirt and dust from dulling the colours over time.
Fixing fluorescent pigments to miniatures requires patience and attention to detail, but the vibrant and eye-catching results are well worth the effort - they can deliver powerful glowing effects that take your miniatures to the next level.
