Rubicon Models Carro Armato M13/40 Tank Kit Overview
Explore the features and historical significance of the Rubicon Models Carro Armato M13/40 tank kit, representing a pivotal Italian medium tank from World War II:
Product Details
Tank Description: The Carro Armato M13/40 was Italy's primary medium tank at the start of World War II, heavily influenced by the British Vickers 6-ton tank. Constructed of riveted steel plates, it featured rear-mounted engine and front-mounted transmission configurations. The tank accommodated a crew of four.
Main Armament: Armed with a 47mm main gun, a tank-mounted version of the Cannone da 47/32 M35 anti-tank gun. It was effective against lighter British tanks encountered in combat, though it struggled against heavier infantry tanks.
Secondary Armament: Equipped with three or four machine guns, including one coaxially with the main gun, two in frontal ball mounts, and sometimes a fourth on the turret roof for anti-aircraft use. It also featured periscopes for the gunner and commander, and a Magneti Marelli RF1CA radio.
Combat History: Used in the Greek campaign of 1940-1941 and extensively in the North African Campaign. The M13/40 series saw significant production numbers, with over 3,000 units built, including variants like the M14/41 and the improved M15/42.
Evolution and Variants: Evolved into later models such as the M14/41 with a more powerful engine and better air filters for desert operations, and the M15/42 with thicker armor and an upgraded 47/40 gun. It also served as the chassis for the Semovente 75/18 self-propelled gun.
Special Variants: Includes unique variants like the Semovente Comando M40, which replaced the turret with a large multi-piece hatch for housing additional radios and communication equipment.

Modeling Accuracy: Offers detailed representations of the tank's construction, armament configurations, and historical context, suitable for historical miniature wargaming and modeling enthusiasts.
